2020 Gift Guide for Wellness

I think all of us can agree that 2020 has been abnormally stressful for everyone, and that we’ve all made some kind of effort to take better care of ourselves. So what better than to give the gift of health and wellness to your loved ones this holiday season? I’m often asked for product recommendations as it relates to food and supplements, but if you’ve worked with me, you know that I emphasize health and wellness on a holistic level. This means that I advocate for healthy products that range from home fragrance, to cleaning supplies, to even bedsheets! Many of our everyday products have the possibility of containing harmful substances that can damage immune, detoxification, and hormonal processes in our bodies that not even proper nutrition can fix. Using my whole-body approach, I’ve curated this gift guide for the holidays. These are products that I personally use and can attest to.

In this guide, you’ll find health-promoting gifts for you loved ones, and you can even get some ideas for yourself! Whenever I buy a new product, I always do a lot of research to make sure they meet strict standards for quality and safety. However, as with anytime that you use a new product, be safe about it- these are general recommendations and may not be safe for everyone (for example, if you are allergic to an ingredient in a product). Additionally, I have received affiliated discount codes for some of the products to save you money, which is included in the description for some of the products.

And a reminder: sometimes the best gifts are not those that are physical. These times are difficult for a lot of people, and maybe shopping isn’t the right option for you. Great gifts that can nourish each other emotionally and express gratitude could include quality time, a handmade card, or even a phone call.

Wishing you and your loved ones a health and safe holiday season,

Best wishes, Meghan Pendleton-2 2.png

Candles and Fragrances

Most candles and fragrances use petroleum-based materials, whether in the wax itself or in the fragrance, which pose potential health risks. Grow makes plant-based candles and fragrances with better quality ingredients. Plus, their products are made in the USA, and they guarantee living wages and healthcare to their employees. My favorite scent is ginger pumpkin, but they have lots of scents to pick from. Fragrances are $12 and candles are $34, which includes a holder. Dry Brush

Dry brushing is a practice that has been used for hundreds of years. It helps exfoliate the skin, promote blood circulation, and movement of lymph fluid (your lymphatic system helps remove waste products and toxins from your body). I personally use a dry brush a few times a week right before showering, and there are a lot of how-to videos online. This dry brush by EcoTools is the one I use. It only costs $5, so it would make a great stocking stuffer or part of a bundle.

Nourishing Face Mask

This has been my all-time favorite face mask. I love that it uses matcha green tea, Dead Sea clay, and herbs to soothe the skin without drying it out. Since it’s in a powder form that you add water to, a little will go a long way. This mask is $20, however one jar usually lasts me for a whole year! There are other great options for skincare gifts on this site as well. Treat Yourself uses no parabens, SLS or phthalates in their products. Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Our eyes see multiple colors in the light spectrum. Excessive blue light exposure from smart phones, computers, and tablets can disrupt certain hormonal processes that help regulate our sleep cycles, leading to low-quality sleep. Just think, how many of us have transitioned to working from home and are on a computer all day! Peepers, the maker of these glasses, offer both prescription and non-corrective options that start under $30.

Fruit & Veggie Powders

Let’s be real, how many of us actually get in our 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday? Even I, as a Registered Dietitian, struggle if I’m having a busy day. This is the best greens powder I’ve found that packs in fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants by using whole foods as ingredients. Each packet provides 4 servings of fruits and veggies. Try a sample 8 pack for $31.

Pantry Kit

I love the products that Primal Kitchen puts out. They use simple, natural ingredients like avocado oil to create delicious salad dressings, cooking oils, condiments, and more. Primal Kitchen offers great bundles of products that would be perfect for gift giving, like this Pantry Kit for $35. I use all of thsee products on a regular basis and love them. Reusable Silicon Storage Bags

Plastic is a big endocrine system disruptor, especially when it contains BPA and BPS. Your endocrine system is responsible for producing mood, metabolism, and reproduction hormones. Silicone is a safe, non-toxic option. These reusable silicone storage bags are microwave safe and dishwasher safe. Another big plus is the reusability factor: save money by not buying single-use plastic bags. They come in a bundle for $87, but you can score a 15% off coupon if you sign up for their email list.
